Do you really have time to take on another project? Well, this one is worthwhile. This collaborative project between a teacher and a librarian is place-based and meaningful to everyone involved. It utilizes many digital tools, such as iPads and cameras to support the research while presenting the final project in google sites and storyjumper.com.
Using the alphabet as a guiding structure, the students researched various places and people around their school using differentiated materials.
This project included parents helping the students through the writing process. This was also student-driven. The students took their own pictures and conducted interviews of school staff, using iPads to record. All children were successful writing their report as topics and tools were chosen by interest and ability. The final project is a book through storyjumper.com, both in print and digital form. A Google site holds all research videos, reports and photos, including the children reading their reports.
